A loaded beam axle is dependent suspension in which a set of wheels are connected laterally by a single beam or shaft. The can be used at the rear and front wheels of a vehicle. There are two kinds of beam axles, the live and the dead axle. The difference between them is that the live axle transmits power whereas the dead axle does not. This suspension system can be used with other types of power transmission.
The principle function of a beam axle is to transmit driving torque to the wheel. It also serves as a connector by connecting the wheels on the right side of the vehicle with wheels on the left side of the vehicle.
